Time's slipping through your...

Today the sun rose at 7:04 and set at 16:00, tomorrow it will rise at 7:07 and set at 15:58, and this is a tendency from day to day. That is to say, we lose 5 minutes of sunlight each day here in Stockholm, which adds up to 35 minutes a week. Now this is week 44, so we have approximately 8 weeks until Christmas, oki just 7. That would mean 7x35 = 245 minutes that we lose (of sunshine, of course). Is that like 6 hours? Meaning that the sun would rise at 10am and set at 13:00?

When I lived in Helsinki I think the process might have slowed down in the end.... Sun came up around 9:30 and set at 2pm maybe... hmmm.... I do remember sleeping an awful lot in Helsinki though, at least in December =)))

We'll see how it goes in Sthlm :D

Btw, it is going to be 13 degrees on Thu-Fri =))))))) and sunshiiiiine!

Life is difficult

There are those perfect moments in life when you finally manage to force yourself get out of your apartment and go jogging around your fave island and then when crossing the court of Stadhuset you enter from the North side and the view appears slowly in front of you... as you enter through a small door and the opposite side of Stadhuset is fully open, you see a beautifully lit Sodermalm. And all is perfectly silent, except for the clatter you make with your foot.... as an angel hits the ground.

* * *

And then when arriving back to your building you walk further up to 7-eleven on S:t Eriksgatan and get a bottle of juice or something to ease your thirst and when you walk back home and stretch and talk to H about my life in Sthlm and take a shower, and keep talking to her, and then have fried camambert cheese with cranberry sauce and rice for dinner.

It is indeed nice. It really could be much much worse....

* * *

it sounds to me like you have a pretty nice life, afterworking, sleeping, jogging, studying [Swedish]...   it could be much worse right?

Right, it could be.

Nessun dorma in bed

Today morning, well, I would say early afternoon when I was lying in my bed and chatting with X I was browsing videos on youtube as well, and somehow ended up watching Pavarotti & Friends videos, a whole lot of them. There was one that I really liked, it is a song from Puccini's Turandot entitled Nessun dorma, i.e. Noone sleeps.

It all started with me not getting out of bed until 11ish and then starting to chat with X, and then, then somehow I ended up staying in bed until 2pm when I had a scheduled phone conf with my dear Milo, and we were on the phone and me in the bed until 3pm, and then i went to the shop to get some food cause all i had home was a bottle of yoghurt that i drank for breakfast (in the bed, obviously).

I also skyped ma' for almost an hour from bed.

Ahh... the title is a bit funny =) for me... but when i got to the shop, or well, got out of my building i heard a really shittiy trumpet playing Nessun dorma in far distance. As I made it closer to the shop it turned out to be a bummer playing it real horrorshow [noone could deny that i have just finished Burgess' Clockwork Orange two weeks ago =)]. Talking about coincidences....

For example, when I see vandalous people raging around my lovely hometown, Budapest. I do not think there is any reason for which people would be allowed to get away with messing up a city. Let alone Budapest =( I mean seriously, I fear becoming top news on CNN and New York Times yet again... Labels: state of mind

It's half past ten in the morning, Wera and I are leaving from Lucas' apt in an hour or so to meet Laci & Marti at Madison Square Garden at noon. We will have approximately 2 hours there, just a little chit-chat, quick goodbye. Luckily, he is coming to Stockholm in exactly three weeks. Sweet!

And then I'll take that Jersey train and get to Newark. Should get my camera prepared for some nice shots of Manhattan...

There is not much left to say... my sis is online, i'll go try and get a hold of her.

We did get Lucas' laundry, then posted letters and postcards, then made a copy of the keys to his apartment for me, then had breakfast... and then looked for a hairdresser... found one, i am going there soon. He has to skip due to the lack of time =(

In the meanwhile Wera landed, I bought a pair of new boots and two pairs of jeans, a couple of new T-shirts. Pretty nice day, hein?

Busy day.... Lucas is leaving for Berlin tonight =D Whoaaa.....

Come visit NYC then!

Yesterday Laci, Marti and me met in front of the International Centre of Photography which is on Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave) to see Robert Capa's photo exhibit. He was a Jewish/Hungarian photographer who emigrated to Germany, and then to Paris and basically lived his life like Hemingway. He and girlf Gerda Taro were the only people covering the Spanish civil war and that made them darn famous. They worked for all the big agencies and papers. Taro died in the Spanish civil war, Capa died later on in Vietnam.

The exhibit was supernice, we even read some of his hand written letters to his agent - all in Hungarian!

Btw, he did live his life like Hemingway... he and Gerda earned a lot of money and spent it quickly, and then struggled.... and he was friends with Hemingway, of course.

When we were about to leave the building 1ish, i.e. we grabbed our bags and were just lurking around suddenly we saw people running like crazy on the street and glass bits falling and tickling on the street. People sstruggled getting cover in phone boothes and in the revolving door of our building! This is what happened, check out on NYTimes.com.

At first I didn't take photos... then the security guard got on top of the siutation and led us to the back of the building and made us exit at the other exit of the building some 50 meters down 6th Ave. Laci was taking photos by then, we weren't with Marti.... but then when crossing the street and seeing that noone was really hurt I obviously took out my camera, and so did Marti in the end.

And this wasn't the only exciting part of the day.....

walking on walking on broken glass

Good morning, America!

Today I had to wake up to this very Swedish-like weather, i.e. gloomy and gray, but we knew that the next two days would not be as sunny as the previous days had been. So I put on my jogging shoes and sat downto the couch and hasn't left it ever since =) Soon it is time for a shower, and then I wanna locate a Levi's store somewhere downtown, and wanna pop into another GAP store cause the one I went into had no pullies, or not many...

Shoe shopping is still on hold! Waiting for input =)))

Here's a photo of yesterday's visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art:

Of course it buys happiness!

I gave this stickerlike freezer magnet to my dear H from Oz, there is a woman on it drawn in this 60s vintage-retro style saying "Of course it buys happiness"... It does not matter how much I dislike capitalism, and the very human nature of comparing oneself to the rest of the population, i.e. i am good as long as i have more than the average/rest/everyone else, so no matter how i don't like this stupidity of the world, i am pretty much the same myself too.

I was happy strolling along 6th ave with my new supercute red GAP winter coat...

However, buying jeans at a GAP store is not that simple, I would say. They had only one, i.e. ONE, type of jeans tht were skinny... and i was looking for skinny jeans, but wanted blues as well, so now i think i will have to pop into a Levi's store as well. Anyway, i bought the blacks, and are really nice, and size 2, whatever that means... =DD

I have a huge amount of pics that are relatively okay... from the Met, and from top of the Empire State Building, and so on. Will have to upload them somewhere, I guess... facebook =)

It's been a hard night's day...
It's hard to sum up what has happened to me in the past two two and a half days, so here is the essence that comes from Jennifer from tonight's dinner at that middle-eastern place in Brooklyn:

What's worse thatn ten dead babies stapled to a tree?
- One dead baby stapled to ten trees....

It's been a hard night's day today in NYC, we sort of hung out in Central Park, lying on the moan, establishing a new country (called Hunaco) that would bridge Monaco and Hungary, Marti would be President, I'd be the Secretary of Denial (someone who can always say no to questions, i.e. US declaring war on us, and i jusut say "No!"), Laci would be the Secretary of Communications, and Lucas of Foreign Affairs as he didn't speak THE language, i.e. Hungar.... life is indeed great. Central Park, zeppelin, Brooklyn and other bridges, sky scrapers fallen on their side, Chinese wall, no war, US secretary of defense offense attack, jaaaaaazz, all the ducks are swimming in the water, brown eyed girl, my dear H, my future red GAP coat, shopping.

gnight, sleep tight, i'm off. Labels: friends, H, Lucas, module4, news, NYC, state of mind, weather
