"These songs of Freedom....." Wow, Redemption Song is one of the best songs I've ever heard. And though basically I am not a fan of the old Bob, I even like his version. But...!!!! What I am much more excited about these days is the upcoming Live8 concert on 2 July. I am not really sure you all knew about it, so to put it in a nutshell: the lovely Bob Geldof, who gained fame as organizing the one and only Live Aid concert that raised money to save Ethiopian people from starvation, is now again in the limelight with his new concert. It aims to draw people's attention to the next G8 summit that will take place in the beginning of July. As for G8 it contains the richest and most powerful countries in the world, namely: U.S., Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Japan. And the aim of the show is not to raise money, so people, they are reaaaaally not asking for your money now!, but for your signature, to sign their declaration about Make Poverty History, which is Bono's and other celeb faces' campaign to help poor African countries. So there is this petition you can sign on the www.one.org webpage, and they want to force the G8 to release debts of the African countries..... Background info for those of you who are not reaaaaally concerned about Africa, or are not that familiar with the situ over there: it is said (can't remember the exact source, but it was somekinda national AIDS website) that approx. 30 million people are about to die of AIDS in Africa in the next ten years. This is huge, not just as personal tragedies, but in an economical concern as well. The problem is the following. In a healthy nation the way how the number of people living in the country and the relevance of their age can be described as a pyramid. So basically there are many working people, of course less young people, and few elderly pensioners. This means that a quite numerous amount of working people pay for the life expenses of the young and the elderly by paying taxe, etc. So that is the normal way. What happens in Africa is very serious, and is that due to the HIV epidemic, which of course mostly is acquired by young people and their babies result in that there are really a lot of old people who need their pension, and there are few working people, and even more less young people. So basically the whole economy is like collapsing. And they already have huge debts, and even if the debts were released these countries could not reinstall the normal way of living on their own. A huge problem again is that people of Africa jus can'tget the drugs we even get for almost free in developed countries, and children are dying of hunger, and stupid illnesses. It's just sooooo not right to stand here and do nothing. Soooo.... here's the deal my dear! Please all go to the www.one.org website and be kind to sign the petition, cause as they say 'One by one by one we can make a difference...!' Some xtra info: the campaign is supported by such names as Bono, Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz, P.Diddy, Cameron Diaz, Salma Hayek, Antonio Banderas, Benicio del Toro, Justin Timberlake, Orlando Bloom, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Kate Hudson, etc
And now sg else. Last two weeks passed quite fast, I guess I was working some time, and been to the pictures, also to Bence's concert. I can't remember anything else. Summer plans are just about to be clarified. Aims are to go to mountaineering at the end of July, but for that I need to work out a lot. So that is just soooo not for sure for the time being. Then, for sure, I will got climbing with friends C family. I already have my ticket to the Sziget festival, and this year its gonna be huge. And by huge I mean, reaaaaaally huge. With Morcheeba, Nick Cave (yeah babay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Underworld, Franz Ferdinand, Natalie Imbruglia, Anima Sound System.... Maybe I will also go to Switzerland for some time, as a good friend of mine will hopefully be doing her Ph.D. in Zürich from September. And of course I still wanna see my nice friends in Paris. And we were also about to see each other somewhere in Vienna or Bp with Reini. So full of plans, and have a bit less time, I guess :+) But life's hard.....! Music: Movies: |
